I finally was able to find time to really talk to my boss. I'd been wanting to talk to him about the fact that since I'd been working with the company I'd only gotten one raise and that was six months after I started working there. (I've been with the company for almost 2 1/2 years.) On top of that, it was on $0.25. Considering that the other rental companies give their employees raises every six months it was something I wanted to ask about. I can't live off of what I make right now, especially if I want to get my own place anytime soon.
Anyway, I talked to him and he said that the company was not giving out raises to anyone at the moment for an indefinite amount of time. He said that at the beginning of every year he tries to get the company to change this policy and become more competitive with their pay. But it hasn't come to anything so far. While I can appreciate the fact that he is trying, unfortunately I can't wait for the company to listen to him. I don't even make $8.00 an hour and while getting a second job would normally be an option, I can't do that because I go to school full time. I do like my job most of the time, I really think that I need to find something new.
I hope that I can find something where I can work the same, if not better, hours than I do now while getting better pay. We'll see. I'm really trying to find a new place to stay, but I just can't afford to until I can make more money.
As you may see, I'm up at about 5:30 am on Christmas Eve. Why? Because for some fucked up reason, my company decided that it would be a good idea to open early today. We never open at 7 on a Sunday, always at 9. To top it off, I just work a 10 hour shift yesterday and they have me working on Christmas. This job can seriously kiss my ass! I'm so mad right now it's ridiculous!
Maybe I'm just in a funk or something. It just seems that recently I hate my job even more than I normally do. It hasn't been particularly bad recently. In fact, it's actually gotten better than how it was about a month ago.
In case you don't know (which, chances are you don't) I work at a car rental place. I work out at our airport (which is very small) and rent cars to customers. At first, this does not seem very bad. It's not....in theory. Then you take into account the fact that people can be assholes. Not to mention really stupid. There are certain rules and regulations when it comes to renting cars. Among them the fact that you must have a driver's license, be 25, and have a credit card. These basic rules, for some mysterious reason, seem to give some people a lot of trouble.
"What do you mean, I have to be 25?" What I'd like to say is that you are an irresponsible idiot who doesn't know the meaning of the words "speed limit". Which I can attest to since I'm 21, going on 22, and I've never gone the speed limit in my life! (Except in a school zone.) So I don't blame the company at all! :D
And I don't understand how people think that paying cash for a rental works out. If the rental is $200 for a week and I let you pay that in cash. What if you never bring the car back? Or if you crash it? At least the credit card gives me some kind of insurance, not a lot but a little. $200 in cash does not equal a $20,000 vehicle that you stole or wrecked. But hey, maybe that just makes sense to me. I realize that some people do not like credit cards. But face it. In our world you're going to need one eventually. Sometimes you don't really have a choice. It's not like you have to use it all the time! Only when necessary. Like when you want to rent a car!
And please don't ask me to rent on your license and someone else's credit card! Do you know how much legal trouble I could get into with that? I don't even want to get into that. I don't care if that person is standing right next to you. Have you people never watched court shows! You see all of those stupid people that let others use their credit cards and become surprised when they spend all of their money! Hah!
There are a whole lot of other complaints that I won't get into. Most involve people being either really stupid, ignorant, or failing to read paperwork or ask important questions. If you've never rented a car before, I think that it's very important to ask questions! It's not hard and it's better than running into problems later because you were too scared to ask!
Anyway. With horrible customers (which I am getting used to) and a really stupid manager I'm just really tired. My numbers are low (when it comes to selling) which may get me fired but I'm not really caring at the moment. I know why my numbers are low and I try to tell my boss that it's hard to try to rent to customers with no cars, but it never really seems to get through! So I don't even bother anymore and everytime he talks to me, I just let whatever he says go right over my head. It seems to work because he's happy, because I let him talk. Whatever. I'm sick and tired of all of it. Maybe that will go away soon. But somehow I don't really think so.
Ok. I'll quit whining. I really just needed to get that out there. It was getting really hard to keep it all in.
